The First Step to a Better Life Starts Here

Change the way you see each day and grow into the person you aspire to be. Sometimes, learning more about ourselves can make us happier and more hopeful people. At Aspiration of Character Counseling Services, LLC in Portland, Oregon, I believe that every person is an important part of this world.

Hello! My name is LaShawnda Q. Jones. I offer counseling and therapy for children, adolescents, young adults, and families, focusing on cultural-specific communities and other racial minorities. When working with families, I consider my "client" to be each individual and the relationship between the family members. I conscientiously protect the confidentiality of minors as well as adults.

As a Licensee

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (C4924) for state of Oregon (2018) and a License Mental Health Counselor (LH 60817215) for the state of Washington (2018). I must abide by the Code of Ethics with Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists and Washington State Department of Health. To maintain my licenses, I must participate in continuing education and training dealing with subjects relevant to this profession.

Philosophy and Counseling Approach

I believe that everyone including families can reach an optimum state of integrated health. When speaking of integrated health, it involves not just the mental and emotional health but there is the spirit, body, and environment as well.

I believe that in order to be an effective counselor, you have to meet the individual or family where they are and help them to either understand, adapt, or cope with the barriers and/or challenges.

I adhere to an eclectic approach with a strong reliance in modalities such as family systems, client-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused brief therapy, and play therapy to children, adolescents, young adults, and families that are culturally specific (African-Americans and other racial minorities such as Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Latino(a) Americans).

Education and Training

I hold a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Education from Portland State University. My major course work included rehabilitation counseling with an emphasis on psycho-social adjustment, emotional, behavior, and mental health disorders along with medical disabilities.

Certifications and Other Accomplishments

Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Level II in Oregon (2001)

Post-graduate certification in Clinical Supervision in Oregon (2018)

Trained in group, individual, couple, and family counseling

I am required to participate in continuing education in each licenses and certifications.
